Exhibit Design Case Study: Red 5 Studios
Client: Red 5 Studios featuring the videogame FireFall
Challenge: Due to strict European regulations, any video game content depicting violence is restricted from viewing for those show guests under the age of 13. The Trade Group was challenged to create an exhibit design allowing those old enough to play the access to a rich interactive gaming experience while those under 13 are able to still enjoy learning about the game and it’s characters.
Solutions: Custom 72’ x 79’ exhibit that measured 26′ tall. The domed two-story structure featured custom lighting and video projection. Included 40 workstations and several monitors ranging from 36” touch screens to a trio of 65” screens to create an expansive video wall.
Exhibit Products & Services: Exhibit and graphic design, custom exhibit structure, international exhibit fabrication, interactive audio-visual technology solutions, multi-game player kiosks, turn-key exhibit management.
Design Solutions – Being a new game, the design needed to attract everyone regardless of age. The exhibit maintained an “open feel” rather than an enclosed box commonly used by other gaming companies. A circular, upper-deck was created to host 40 workstations for 20-minute trial game-play sessions. This deck was accessed via the twin curved staircases. The underside of the deck was used as a museum and learning center where those who were under-age or simply didn’t wish to stand in line for the upstairs game-play could learn about the game, characters and weapons through custom interactive installations designed by The Trade Group. Merchandise such as branded shirts were given to those who completed a specified number of screens within the interactive. Also showcased were custom made, movie quality props of the weapons and body armor from the main characters creating a museum feel. A front-and center stage and photo backdrop provided the scene for two cosplayers, dressed as the primary male and female characters from the game. Huge crowds gathered for photo opportunities. The inspiration for the “dome” was based on a major element of the game. It is an evil force, residing within the clouds known as “The Melding.” Our canopy, custom lighting and video projection provide a visual representation of this element.
