IEM is the longest running global pro gaming tour in the world. Started in 2006 by ESL, the competition features Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, StarCraft II and League of Legends tournaments across multiple continents. For the 2015 IEM event held in San Jose at the SAP center, IEM needed a partner that was used to their work style, flexible and understood their needs for an esport production on such a large scale.
Our goal was to showcase the unique traits of this IEM event, while connecting and engaging with the audience as an esports community who had grown up playing games like the old-school version of Counter-Strike. We provided everything from captivating lighting and A/V to staging and all aspects in-between. Our team exceeded expectations down to details in the use of gloss-layered counters and even utilizing the Jumbotron for multiple screens and scrolling banners. The stage featured a distinct design that placed two stages back to back (one for League of Legends, and the other for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) and a commenter stage on the side. In an unusual approach, we placed the gamers closer to the audience, which is not common for a gaming event. The crowd was excited to see the players almost face-to-face, which allowed for better engagement and contributed to the overall experience.
“[The] Trade Group is a natural choice when it comes down to live production.”
