Verticon (formerly Heli-Expo) is the world’s largest vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) industry event. As the largest VTOL event, there were over 600 exhibits, including 15,000 industry professionals, and 125+ education and safety sessions at the 2024 edition.
What is Verticon?
For more than 70 years, Vertical Aviation International, or VAI (formerly Helicopter Aviation International), has provided support and services and set the industry safety guidelines for the international helicopter community. While maintaining these 70 years of deep-set roots, the VAI has also stayed current with a recent name change and rebrand. Previously Helicopter Association International (HAI), the organization’s name change reflects the broadening of the industry to encompass more than just helicopters but any rotating aviation craft.
HAI stated that the rebranding was driven in part by a “wave of expansion” in the field of rotary aviation, with new technologies such as drones and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) craft rapidly emerging in recent years.
The organization added: “We rebranded to expand our reach, and so VAI focuses on what unites us: the unique capabilities of vertical flight. If you design, build, fix, fly, supply, or support vertical aviation, then you belong in VAI!”
